Maizie’s Musings: Paw Massages

demian-1411256

Rrrrrrrrrrrrruff! How are my readers? Yes, you are my readers. The mom person just hasn’t figured out this obvious reality yet. She’s just weird.

Because I am Queen of the Canine Universe, I am entitled to paw massages. (The people tell me that entitlement is common in America, therefore, I am certain that canine queens deserve paw massages.) What is a paw massage?

When I sit down beside my people, I lift up my paw to them. My people know that when I do this, they are to rub all parts of my paw (top and bottom, inside and out), thoroughly. By thoroughly I mean for about 5 hours. Sometimes I re-position my corresponding leg to receive leg massages, too, but I’m fonder of paw massages. Other people shake my paw up and down and I have no earthly idea why.

Time Is to Love As Wind Is to Fire…

explosion

In my teen years I had a walk-in closet in my room and I decided to put inspirational quotes on the back of the closet door to remind me who I wanted to be. Since this was pre-Google and pre-Internet and pre-app, I found the quotes in a variety of places. I literally tore the paper I wrote them on (no copy and paste function and I didn’t own a laptop or typewriter then!) to give the paper and quote a more creative twist.

99% of what I wrote on the back of my door I can no longer recall. But the one that actually permanently lodged itself in my long-term memory was this:

Time is to love

As wind is to fire–

It extinguishes the small

And kindles the great.

It is a modernization of a quote by Roger de Bussy-Rabutin. And it seems particularly appropriate for discussing how my Heartpaths group prayer meetings are structured.

Word of the Week: rhadamanthine

Sorry I’m a bit tardy on the WOW (Word of the Week) for today. Will you forgive me if I tell you that Brobdingnagian means, according to Merriam-Webster, marked by tremendous size?

The reason why Brobdingnagian is capitalized is because it references a place in Gulliver’s Travels! So, when I ventured that it was a resident from Brobdingnag…I was darn close–since that is the town in the book! As the hubby says, sometimes even a blind squirrel finds a nut.

This week’s WOW is rhadamanthine. Here are my guesses for rhadamanthine:

rhadamanthine: (ra-də-ˈman(t)-thən, -ˈman-ˌthīn) 1. your radish man 2. the process of ratifying a mandate 3. the word “rad” used to excess

What are your guesses for this word? Post a comment to this entry and let me know. Chances are that you will be way closer than mine!
