Sorry I’m a bit tardy on the WOW (Word of the Week) for today. Will you forgive me if I tell you that Brobdingnagian means, according to Merriam-Webster, marked by tremendous size?

The reason why Brobdingnagian is capitalized is because it references a place in Gulliver’s Travels! So, when I ventured that it was a resident from Brobdingnag…I was darn close–since that is the town in the book! As the hubby says, sometimes even a blind squirrel finds a nut.

This week’s WOW is rhadamanthine. Here are my guesses for rhadamanthine:

Book Club Update: I read the first page of Jon Acuff’s Start and burst out laughing for a full minute. I don’t do that often. Have you started laughing yet? If not, go here to, of course, Start! 

Compassion Counseling Center Update: We now have 9 clients, but I would love for us to have even more clients, so please keep praying that we will find the people who need our help. We have dealt with abuse, self-injury, relationship difficulties, and new school adjustment issues just to name a few. We are also about to offer our first group for premarital counseling!

Good morning, Word Lovers! Last week’s WOW was crepitate. Merriam-Webster says that the definition of crepitate is to make a crackling sound. If that’s the case, then my joints crepitate all the time. (This WOW may become a new regular in my vocabulary!)

Good morning, MIP readers! I hope you are having a fantastic Friday!

Today I reveal the two posts you found the most interesting in 2014. Both were generated for the same reason–my brother was diagnosed with one horrific case of esophageal cancer. They “book-ended” the time I spent last year traversing back and forth to his home and the hospital near his home. So, # 2 was my announcement, yet again, that I needed to put writing a blog on hold to take care of him. This post was difficult to write for a whole host of reasons, not the least of which was that I felt compelled to protect my brother’s privacy at this point in my life. Later on my eldest brother told me that the “affected brother” was sad that I had stopped writing on his account. But, I knew something that my brother didn’t–that MIP readers are very “faithful fans” and would come back to my blog when I had the time to write again. One more time, here is “Another Kind of WOW.

Unfortunately, the reason why I was able to return to writing was because my brother made the courageous decision to end treatment and just let nature take its course. He passed away 8 days later, after telling me he was “trying to do this quickly.” I knew exactly why he said that. He never wanted anyone to suffer on his account. And thus, because he hated me giving up the blog, I wrote, for him, “Why I Stopped Writing.” 

Kleenex, anyone??? Thanks for coming back here to read both the fun and not so fun events of my life. I am grateful for each one of you.

Last week’s WOW was deracinate. The Merriam-Webster Online definition is: uproot or to remove or separate from a native environment or culture; especially to remove the racial or ethnic characteristics or influences from something. The hubby had a pretty close guess for this one! How is it that everyone in my family is smarter than me??? Oh. Wait. It’s my family.

Today’s WOW is crepitate. I feel like I should know this word, but it has escaped my brain (probably from that face plant a few weeks ago!). So here are my guesses for crepitate:

Today is the DD’s 25th birthday! Difficult to believe that she is a quarter-century old, but alas, she is. She will spend most of her day working with kids, which has been a favorite pastime for her since she was 2 years old. Have a wonderful day, Sweetie!

Last week’s WOW was regnant. Both my niece and DD had a pretty good idea about this one! Merriam-Webster Online says that the definition of regnant is: exercising rule or having the chief power or  of common or widespread occurrence. The aforementioned smart chicks felt it had to do with being regal royalty and they were right!

This week’s WOW is anodyne. Here are my ridiculous attempts at this one:

anodyne (ˈa-nə-ˌdīn): 1. annotating a dynamic sign 2. a sign indicating “No Dining” (which means I’d never see the sign, because I believe in dining everywhere) 3. the diode of anode

Happy New Year!

Hey, awesome MIP-stalkers! How are you? I’m a little frightened about 2015, honestly.

In 8 days counseling begins at Compassion Counseling Center and I have many concerns about the “unknown.” But, one thing that I hope you gain from stopping by here is that fear is not a big deal. It’s just a signal that we should plan carefully and pray consistently so that our future steps are thoughtfully carried out and guided by God.

Let’s get this series finished up, okay? My 2nd most favorite post of 2014 is not my favorite because I like how I wrote it, but because it marked a milestone for me. It was my first product review. Some bloggers actually make a living doing this, believe it or not. I doubt that I will ever do so many that I can retire on such posts, but it indicates to me that some of the steps I’m taking to get my blog “out there” are finally taking off. And I want my blog to be helpful and an inspiration to whomever God puts in my path (and I consider you “in my path” if you read this blog!). If you missed this post and care to read it, click here.

Howdy, Word Fans! Last week’s word was knackered. I had a sneaky suspicion someone was going to know this word and actually two family members both got this one right. Merriam-Webster officially defines it as: tired or exhausted. This is a British expression, so I guess the relatives spent a week in London recently when I wasn’t looking. What is even more interesting is that knacker is a noun and has little to do with knackered. Go figure.
